Place of birth is from the Fauquier death register. Note (2) William's death record is recorded in Fauquier by his son, Porter. The age at death is reported as 84 years which is incorrect. It is likely that William is buried at the Middleburg Baptist Cemetery in Loudoun County as are other family members, including Emily. Note (3) Married by Walter B. Mccoy. Note (4) In 1900 Emily gives her birthdate as March 1835. That does not correspond to other census data, nor to her burial marker. Note (5) Place of birth is given in the marriage record. Note (6) Marriage record gives his place of birth as Rappahannock Co. while his death record (recorded in Fauquier) gives Prince William Co. Note (7) John's death was recorded in Fauquier for unknown reasons. The informant was Charles S. Menefee, brother-in-law. Date of death per this record is 8 Nov 1892 while his grave marker gives 6 Nov 1892. Note (8) Grave marker indicates he died 6 Nov 1862, age 36 years, 8 months, 21 days. Note (9) Birth information is from the marriage record and is in agreement with census data. Henry's death record gives his place of birth as Prince William Co. which is incorrect. Note (10) Henry's death is recorded in Fauquier. The informant was his brother Robert B. Sutphin who gave Henry's age at death as 49 years which is incorrect.. Also, the death record is recorded as "John Sutphin", though it is clear this is (John) Henry Sutphin. Note (11) Henry resided in Loudoun Co. at the time of his marriage. Note (19) The marriage record indicates Mary was born abt. 1861 and James abt. 1860, neither of which correspond to census data. Further it indicates she was born in Fauquier which appears incorrect. It is possible they were actually underage when married by John F. Poulton. Note (20) Birth date from grave marker. Note (21) Grave marker gives Alfred B. Sutphin. Death date is unknown and the stone was cracked. Funeral was held at the Royston Funeral Home. Note (22) Marriage record gives "A. Benton Sutphin, 21, born in Fauquier. This place of birth is incorrect. Benton and Mary were married by FG Nevitt. Note (23) Burial marker gives 15 Sep 1876 as the birthdate, but the 1900 census gives Oct 1874. Note (24) Ewell and Belle both state their ages as 21 years on the marriage record. In Ewell's case, this is questionable.
