Records in Athens County confirm Mary is his mother and that he had a sister.

Richard Howells himself believed his date of birth to be 22 Feb 1881 as given
on his draft regristrations. Incorrect dates are also recorded in his marriage
license with Helen, his death certificate, and burial marker.
